The purpose of the Indigenous Youth Navigator program is to enhance service provision, provide advocacy, and ensure they are aware of services available to them once they age out of Ministry care.

The Indigenous Youth Navigator program is to provide support and guidance to indigenous youth involved with the Ministry, youth transition planning, youth on probation, youth agreements, aging out and/or in government care. Youth can also voluntarily seek services for other advocacy support. This service is based out of Campbell River, Courtenay and Port Hardy.

Program Goals:

  • To reduce the amount of youth in care
  • To reduce the amount of youth involved with justice
  • To ensure culturally appropriate services are provided to our Indigenous youth
  • Increase Elder involvement in youth planning
  • Collaborate with local social services agencies, Urban organizations and First Nation Bands

The Indigenous Youth Navigator will ensure that indigenous youth:

  • Receive service that is culturally appropriate and sensitive
  • Ensure their voices are heard
  • Have access to community resources or services
  • Are informed on the needs and rights to legal assistance

Role of Indigenous Youth Navigator:

  • Develop and Maintain Community Relationships
  • Assist youth to Access Supports & Participate in Planning
  • Provide youth with Advocacy Support and Information
  • Liaise between Community, Families and External Professionals
